Complex carotid endarterectomy training

The LifeLike Complex Embedded Endarterectomy Model provides a realistic platform for acquiring, refining and assessing advanced carotid vascular surgery skills.

Unlike a standalone vessel model, this advanced simulator incorporates multiple anatomical structures within soft tissue beneath a dermis layer. Trainees must expose the carotid arteries while identifying and protecting the adjacent jugular veins, vagus nerves and hypoglossal nerves.

The model contains two sets of plaque-bearing LifeLike carotid arteries, allowing trainees to practise surgical exposure, vessel dissection, plaque removal and repair within a more complex anatomical environment. It can be used independently or with the LifeLike VI Box.

Carotid surgical exposure

Develop a careful, layered approach through the dermis and soft tissue to locate and expose the embedded carotid structures.

Carotid endarterectomy

Practise arteriotomy, plaque exposure, plaque removal and vessel closure on carotid arteries containing simulated atherosclerotic disease.

Vein and nerve protection

Identify and protect adjacent jugular veins, vagus nerves and hypoglossal nerves while performing the arterial dissection.

Advanced vascular suturing

Refine end-to-side anastomosis, vascular closure and tissue-handling skills within a restricted multi-structure environment.
