Realistic great saphenous vein harvesting training for CABG procedures
The LifeLike Embedded Great Saphenous Vein Model provides a long, ultrasoundable tissue platform for practising open and endoscopic vein harvesting, side-branch management and preservation of the conduit.
Embedded Great Saphenous Vein Harvesting Model
Designed for cardiac and vascular surgical education, the model recreates a long great saphenous vein embedded within soft tissue beneath a dermis layer.
The main simulated vein measures 4 mm in diameter and includes multiple 2 mm side branches projecting at different angles along its length. Trainees must identify, expose and divide these branches while extracting the vein from the surrounding tissue.
The model is designed to support the harvesting techniques associated with coronary artery bypass grafting, including open surgical harvesting and endoscopic harvesting using compatible CO₂ equipment.
Training applications
Open vein harvesting
Practise incision, tissue dissection, vein exposure and controlled extraction using an open surgical approach.
Endoscopic harvesting
Develop endoscopic great saphenous vein harvesting technique using a compatible CO₂ harvesting device and instrumentation.
Side-branch management
Identify and remove 2 mm side branches positioned at different angles while protecting the main vein.
Conduit preservation
Develop careful dissection and handling technique intended to minimise damage to the harvested vein.
Ultrasound localisation
Use compatible ultrasound equipment to locate and follow the embedded vein before beginning the harvesting procedure.
Skills evaluation
Incorporate the model into structured CABG training, demonstrations, workshops and procedural competency assessments.
Realistic harvesting features
Long embedded vein
The 19-inch configuration provides sufficient working length for a progressive harvesting exercise rather than a short isolated dissection task.
- Longitudinal vessel exposure
- Progressive tissue dissection
- Open or endoscopic approach
- Suitable for complete procedural exercises
Angled side branches
The simulated great saphenous vein includes 2 mm solid branches projecting at different angles along the model.
- Branch identification
- Controlled branch division
- Instrument positioning practice
- Main-conduit protection
Layered tissue access
The vein is embedded within soft tissue beneath a 2.2 mm dermis layer, allowing trainees to practise access and dissection before reaching the simulated vessel.
Ultrasoundable construction
The model supports ultrasound and imaging exercises for locating the vein and planning the intended harvesting pathway.

Use with the Great Saphenous Vein Base
For the complete training setup, combine the tissue model with the reusable LifeLike Embedded Great Saphenous Vein Base.
The base includes positioning straps that hold the long tissue model in place and allow the platform to be secured to a suitable table, bed or training surface.
The base is purchased once and retained for future sessions, while the embedded tissue models can be replaced as required.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Great Saphenous Vein Base included?
No. This listing is for the embedded tissue model only. The reusable Great Saphenous Vein Base is sold separately.
Is the simulated vein hollow?
No. The 4 mm main vein and 2 mm side branches are solid. The model is designed specifically for exposure, side-branch management and vein harvesting practice.
Can it be used for vascular anastomosis?
This solid embedded model is not intended for anastomosis. For suturing and anastomosis training, use the Saphenous Vein Training Model .
Does the model support endoscopic harvesting?
Yes. It is designed for both open surgery and endoscopic great saphenous vein harvesting using compatible CO₂ harvesting equipment.
Can the vein be located using ultrasound?
Yes. The manufacturer describes the model as ultrasoundable, supporting vessel localisation and imaging exercises.
Is this product held in stock?
The manufacturer identifies the model as made to order. Lead times should therefore be confirmed before booking a training course or procedural workshop.
